Participation of the fact-checking to combat misinformation: Case of Ecuador Verifica
Abstract
Currently the world is facing the rise of fake news, generally known as fake news, which has become very popular, especially due to interests in various contexts and social groups. Many journalists, media, institutions and society in general, assimilate the situation with great concern since lately the altered information spreads rapidly. Due to this fact-checking organizations have re-emerged to curb the immediacy of misinformation, the web portal Ecuador Verifica being one of them. The objective of this research work is framed in analyzing the processes of publication, contrast and periodicity of the check site during three months of 2021. The methodology used had a qualitative approach, with ethnography being the instrument used to obtain data. The results reflect that during that period there was a focus on news with a political category, and that they generally resort to original sources for the respective verification, noting their contribution to the quality of journalism, however, the amount of news checked they do not ignore the avalanche of misinformation, but rather the portal works as a momentary social incentive.
